I'm Just Sayin'

Welcome. You arrived perfectly on time.

Yes, I am glad you like the fish tank in the waiting room and I agree it is soothing. Have a seat wherever you like.

Happy Independence Day! What a perfect topic for our session this week. Our Forefathers sought independence from tyranny and here you are seeking help from a personal tyranny that is interfering with your life. I want you to know that I respect your courage for coming to see me or any therapist or counselor. You have taken the first step towards your own freedom.

What is my specialty? I have worked with lots of folks, but I find most patients come to me with one or two of the following complaints. They have stress that is killing them, anxiety that is robbing their enjoyment of life, depression that tells dark lies that they believe, or addictions that have enslaved them. Some patients come to talk to someone who will simply listen and not judge.

Sure, I work with couples and family groups and run groups with folks sharing a specific interest.

You don't exactly know why you are here? You are not alone. I have many patients who started that way. We will work it out together.

No, no, you are not crazy. There is no diagnosis named crazy. Oh, I see, your friends and family tell you to snap out of it, stop complaining because you don't have any real problems, you are just crazy.

Here is what I want you to take away from our session today. Your mind, brain, emotions, hormones, etc., are just as much a physical part of you as your toes, stomach, heart or any other part of your body! Lose that old, incorrect way of looking at health as divided into physical and mental.

I hear the Big Ben chime. It means time's up. See you next week, same time, same place.

I’m Just Sayin’, I hear the chime on my office door.  It’s my new patient arriving.  Like many, he is dealing with debilitating grief...
